Following their first place win at the New York State Future City competition, Islip Middle School EXCEL students spent their February break with teacher Julia Johnson in Washington, D.C., competing in the national level of competition.

At the national competition, the team won the specialty award for Most Holistic Approach presented by CH2M HILL Foundation. “With more than 40,000 students across the nation entering this competition and only one team being presented with this award, it was an honor to represent Islip School District with such pride,” said Mrs. Johnson.

The criteria for this award included designing and constructing a city that best incorporates sustainability and an integrated approach to managing resources and infrastructure systems. CH2M HILL is a global leader in consulting, design, design-build, operations and program management.

The district congratulates Mrs. Johnson and the entire team, as well as the three national presenters, Grace Constantino, Ashley Howell, Kyle Ness and their teammates, Kyle Lackner and Dylan Seara.
