Putting their knowledge of the scientific method to the test, more than 75 students at Commack Road Elementary School participated in the school’s annual science fair. For more than five weeks, students in second through fifth grade tested their hypotheses, made observations and drew conclusions.

“The science fair gives students the opportunity to expand upon what they’re learning within their classrooms and explore topics of interest to a greater extent,” said teacher Ted Dieumegard.

Grade-level winners for this year are: second-grader Dakota Dieumegard (“How good is your drinking water?”); third-grader Abigail Alfano (“Which liquid freezes the fastest?”); fourth-grader Elizabeth Bryant (“Sound travel”); and fifth-grader Rosa Bono (“Do white candles burn quicker than colored candles?”).
