Summer Reading Kickoff

To kick off its summer reading program, the District hosted its annual summer reading celebration at Barnes and Noble in Bay Shore on May 18. During the event, visitors to the bookstore enjoyed performances by the Islip High School swing choir and jazz ensemble, listened as elementary principals Dr. Maureen Martin and Jeannette Feminella read their favorite children’s books aloud, and participated in a cupcake decorating station. “It’s a wonderful event,” said Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Ellen Semel. “It is a great opportunity to get the kids excited about reading over the summer.”
