The 2013-14 school year is behind us, and once again the District faced many challenges.  New common core standards, more rigorous assessments, continued state aid limitations and more were ever present.  However, as our past indicates, Islip’s commitment to the education of all remained intact.  All students graduated with a Regents Diploma and more than ever with Distinguished/Advanced recognition.  Islip Middle School students had a 100% pass rate on the Earth Science Regents exam with 93% mastery.  Eighty percent of all students in grade 8 passed the new Common Core Regents.  Our elementary school levels of literacy and writing continue to improve and prepare students for secondary success.  Our primary students have enjoyed the new Discovery Room, bringing content into the school via technology and hands-on experience.

As I attend meetings throughout the year, my colleagues ask about the wonderful things our students do and ask how we do it.  The response is simple – we have great students, parents, and of course, staff who believe in educating the whole child.

For those who have attended their last graduation, come back and visit.  For those with returning children, enjoy your summer, and we look to another great year in September.
