In the spirit of the season, middle school student government members visited senior residents of the Atria Bay Shore assisted living community on Dec. 4 to bring holiday cheer.
Each middle schooler was paired with a senior to discuss their new friend’s life and holiday traditions, which they shared with the entire group. The 20 students then presented the residents with handmade ornaments and performed a holiday sing-along, including tunes like “Jingle Bells,” accompanied by three members of the Islip Middle School Band.
“We wanted to show our students that they can make a significant difference in the lives of others by spreading some holiday joy,” said school social worker Shari Pennington.
