Fourth-grade students at Commack Road recently held a biographical puppet show as part of their curriculum studies in nonfiction reading. Each student chose a person he or she was interested in, read a book on that person and then completed a biography book report on the person. In the culminating activity, the fourth-graders constructed puppets out of craft materials and wrote first-person oral reports, presented at a special show attended by parents.

“This was an opportunity for children to learn about a famous person and then practice public speaking without having to be the face and stand in front of an audience,” said teacher Joan Munson. “All the children in the class enjoyed presenting with their puppets.”
