Baby Ducks Prove a Mighty Experience at Wing

During the week of April 27, kindergarten and first-grade classes at Wing had the opportunity to observe the beginning of life, watching daily as eggs hatched into ducklings.

Accompanying a teaching unit on ducks and their life cycle, each classroom was provided with five duck eggs from a local farm, which were kept in heated, see-through tanks for the students to observe – both visually and aurally – until they hatched into fuzzy yellow ducklings. At week’s end, the ducklings returned to the farm, leaving the students with an indelible memory and a tangible connection to their biology curriculum.

“It was a very exciting week at Wing,” said teacher Lucy Katsch. “The children were given the experience of a lifetime.”
