The Historical Society of Islip Hamlet presents "Going Back ..... to School!", a history of Islip's schools. From an 1814 one-room clapboard structure fashioned with one running shelf to act as a student writing surface, to the magnificent 1884 towered Monell School, deemed "The Finest School in all of Suffolk County," come see the development of our schools through this exhibit that explores the schoolhouses, teachers and students of yesteryear.

The exhibit runs from Aug. 20 to Nov. 22 in the Brookwood Hall History Room at 50 Irish Lane in East Islip. Museum hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10-4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 12-4 p.m.
