Saperstein Named All-National Musician

High school student Larry Saperstein has been named an All-National musician by the National Association for Music Education. He was selected from thousands of qualified applicants for the All-National Honor Mixed Choir based upon his performance at the New York State School Music Association Solo Festival and his participation in the All-State Mixed Choir.

NAfME All-National bands, choruses and orchestras are honors groups comprised of the top students from school music departments across the nation. The ensembles are directed by renowned guest conductors and participate in the NAfME Biennial Conference, which will take place this year in Nashville, Tennessee. Saperstein and the other All-National student-musicians will perform at the Grand Ole Opry House on Oct. 28.

Saperstein, a tenor, will prepare for the concert with Dr. Rich Harris Jr., the choral director at Islip High School.

The senior’s other recent accomplishments include being selected as a member of the All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble in 2014, as an alternate for the All-State Jazz Choir in 2015 and as a Newsday Scholar-Artist for 2015-2016.
