Charity and Chocolate Earn Certificate for Commack Road Student

In a remarkable display of youthful charity, Katalina Villalba, a fourth-grader at Commack Road, recently raised $160 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by selling pink bracelets with bagged Hershey’s Kisses for two hours at the Bay Shore YMCA. Motivated by her grandparents’ deaths due to cancer, and an aunt’s recent diagnosis with breast cancer, she began the collection using her own allowance money. All proceeds from Villalba’s Oct. 3 Kisses for a Cure fundraiser will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

On Oct. 21, Superintendent of Schools Susan Schnebel visited teacher Joan Munson’s classroom at Commack Road to present Villalba with a well-deserved “Above and Beyond” certificate.
