The varsity girls soccer team won the school’s first-ever state Class A championship on Nov. 15, beating Jamesville-DeWitt at SUNY Cortland. The 1-0 game’s sole goal was scored by Lyndsey Sparks. Goalie Cassidy Hock stopped all four Red Rams shots to preserve the shutout. The victory capped a remarkable 14-2-1 season for the Buccaneers.

According to Islip coach Mike Reilly, his team saved its best performance of the season for when it mattered the most.

“At first, with the recent injuries to some impact players, I thought this would be a miracle on turf,” said Reilly. “After the way they played last Sunday, it was just a dominant performance by Islip soccer. This was no miracle.”
