Patriotic Juniors Chosen for Empire Girls State Program

High school junior Mimita Rahman was recently selected as the Rusy-Bohm American Legion Auxiliary candidate for the 2016 New York State Empire Girls State program, and fellow juniors Holly Iafrate and Marina Magoulas were chosen as alternates, awaiting an open position.

Empire Girls State is a unique government-in-action learning program in which American Legion Auxiliary members guide young women to become patriotic and knowledgeable stewards of freedom and democracy. It is held annually each summer at SUNY Brockport. college of Brockport. Candidates must be ranked in the top third of their class and demonstrate patriotism, civic-mindedness, leadership and loyalty.

“The ALA believes that educating youth about basic ideals and principles of government will help ensure our democracy’s survival,” said teacher and Rusy-Bohm member Renee Clock.
