Coats from Commack Road: Fifth-Grader Initiates Charity Drive

Owen LePage, a fifth-grader in Phillip Lally’s classroom at Commack Road, was recently congratulated for altruism by school administrators and the Family Service League.

LePage initiated a coat drive for the Iovino South Shore Family Center, a Family Service League facility in Bay Shore, and the school was able to collect 80 coats and jackets for donation to needy families in the area.

Since 1926, the Family Service League has helped support Long Island families, administering 57 programs in 21, locations, including six family centers such as the Iovino facility.

“Thank you for doing your part to help us make a difference in the lives of over 50,000 Long Islanders each year,” FSL President Karen Boorshtein told LePage. “Families that are struggling to provide for their basic daily needs will be grateful to receive a warm coat for the winter.”

Commack Road Principal Jeannette Feminella said, “Thank you Owen, for a job well done!”
