The high school’s Class of 2016 valedictorian and salutatorian are Amber Yildizel and Brian Lithen, respectively.
Yildizel, an exceptional young woman, earned the title of valedictorian with hard work and dedication. Her weighted GPA was 104.42. She is an officer of the school’s National Honor Society and Science Olympiad A team, and serves as vice president of the Yearbook Club. A former officer of the Foreign Language Honor Society, Yildizel is bilingual in English and Turkish and has exceptional skills in Spanish and Italian. Yildizel will attend Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island this fall, where she plans to major in international relations.
Lithen is graduating from Islip High School with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors. With a weighted GPA of 104.36, he is in the top 5 percent of his graduating class, and has been recognized by the College Board as an AP Scholar with Ddistinction. Lithen is a member of the National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, History Club and Science Olympiad team; for the latter, he serves as an invitation coordinator and Quiz Bowl president. An outstanding athlete, Lithen has competed for the past four years on the school’s varsity cross-country and winter and spring track teams. He will attend the University of Virginia in the fall, majoring in biomedical engineering.
