Commack Road honored former principal Jeannette Feminella and breast cancer awareness with a Power of Pink Day on Oct. 31. Staff and students wore jeans and pink tops as a sign of unity. Each staff member wearing jeans donated $10 for a plaque in Feminella’s name to be placed in perpetuity at the school. Principal Brian McCarthy also set up a Pink Penny jar for any spare change that students wished to contribute.

“Being that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, I wanted to do something to honor Mrs. Feminella,” said fourth-grade teacher Catherine Nieves. “It was a great day seeing everyone in pink. You could feel Jeannette’s presence.”
