Guided by teachers Kaitlyn Rooney and Christine Sheridan, the middle school's student government hosted its first Halloween Spooktacular, a safe Halloween event for the district's elementary school students, on Oct. 27. Hundreds of children trick or treated and excitedly participated in various games and crafts.

“We were overwhelmed by the amount of Islip families that participated,” said Assistant Principal James Cameron. “Based on the success this year, we are hoping this event becomes a new tradition in Islip.”

Sherwood Principal Chad Walerstein said, “I heard a lot of positive feedback from families. We had a book fair that night, and many parents came here with their children after the middle school event. The children had a lot of fun and enjoyed the activities that were available.”
