Morgiana McDevitt and Emma Regina, two talented students from the high school, were named All-State musicians by the New York State School Music Association and chosen to perform with the All-State Mixed Chorus at the NYSSMA Winter Conference on Dec. 4. McDevitt was also selected for the All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

The students were chosen based on their performances at last year’s NYSSMA Solo Festival. The Mixed Chorus, Vocal Jazz Ensemble and New York’s six other All-State ensembles are honors groups comprised of the best students from school music departments across the state. At the Winter Conference, held at the Eastman Theater in Rochester, McDevitt and Regina will sing under the direction of renowned guest conductors. They will both prepare for the concerts with Dr. Rich Harris Jr., the high school's choral director.

“These young ladies are extraordinary musicians,” said Vincent Green, Islip’s director of fine and performing arts. “We could not be prouder of them and we know they will be terrific ambassadors for Islip at the NYSSMA Conference.”
