Robbie Hart took a break from his duties as The Wedding Singer to perform his comical tale at Islip High School for their spring musical. The Wedding Singer tells the story of a young man, Robbie, portrayed by junior Mike McAlpin, looking for love in the 1980’s. Throughout the story, the audience enjoys the catchy 80’s tunes and fashions as Robbie slowly falls in love with cocktail waitress Julia Sullivan, played by senior Maria Theo.
In addition to acting on stage, the High School students took to performing behind the scenes as they built scenery, helped choreograph the musical numbers, designed the costumes, and acted as hair and make-up artists.
The musical was executive produced by Director of Fine Arts Vincent Green and directed by Allison Jeanes. It included support from costume designer and Board of Education President Catherine Romano, scenic artist Melissa Trocchio-Cohen, vocal director Rich Harris Jr., choreographer Maureen Shutt-Bodkin, sound/lighting manager Brian Patanjo, set designer Tim David, and set construction worker Jesse Eilbeck.
