Creating Scenery
For the past six years, fifth-grade students from Commack Road Elementary School in Islip have worked together with the High School Art Club to paint scenery for the high school musical. Joined by their art teachers, Melissa Trocchio-Cohen and Bethany Fisher, the students used their creativity to put finishing touches on locker rooms, bathrooms, and benches being used in this year’s production of Damn Yankees.
“This experience gives the fifth graders a taste of what they can become involved with when they come to the high school,” said Mrs. Trocchio-Cohen. Added Ms. Fisher, “The students are so proud of what they accomplish here. They bring their families to the musical and show off the pieces they helped create.”
