Suffolk Zone Fitness Awards

Two Islip High School students were honored at a dinner sponsored by the New York State Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Dan Eichner and Kara Rafferty were recognized at the East Wind on December 2. The criteria for achievement for this award are: exceptional physical performance, scholastic ability and leadership qualities.
    Dan is a true leader in physical education class as he leads by example. He is a three-year varsity athlete in soccer, wrestling and lacrosse, who has maintained a 100.22 average that ranks him fourth in his class. Dan was a scholar-athlete every season and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society. His future plans consist of studying mechanical engineering at either RPI or the United States Military Academy at West Point in the fall.
    Kara’s physical education teacher ranks her as one of the All-Time Bests. She has maintained a 93 average while participating on the varsity soccer, basketball, and lacrosse teams for the past three years. Kara has attended the Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference, is a member of the Foreign Language Honor Society and Athletes Helping Athletes, and is an Academic All-American.
