Islip Students are All Islanders
Students at Islip Middle School learned a lesson about the importance of teamwork at school and in ordinary life from New York Islanders hockey team mascot Sparky the Dragon and arena hostess Dina. The popular assembly gives the team a chance to speak with students about working together to reach common goals. During the program, teamwork was showcased through students and teacher volunteers who raced to see who could dress in full hockey gear the quickest – the group of three students working together or the teacher working alone. Arena hostess Dina also compared the NHL to school, stating, “From our general manager to our coaches and players, we are working together to be a successful organization just like here at your school, from the principal to your teachers to you working together to be a successful school.”
Following the program, the students were given gift bags with Islander merchandise including a folder, pen, and comic book featuring Sparky.
